Turkish government asks parliament to approve extension of military operations in Iraq

ANKARA, Turkey -- The government on Monday (September 22nd) formally asked parliament to extend the mandate of the Turkish Army's operations against militants from the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in northern Iraq. The government wants the one-year mandate, set to end in mid-October, extended by another year. (CNN Turk, Hurriyet, Anadolu news agency - 22/09/08)
