Casualties in Synelnykove
A Russian drone hit a residential building in the Synelnykove district of Dnipropetrovska Oblast on Oct. 24, which killed three civilians and injured 12 people. Governor Oleksandr Hanzha reported that the strike caused a fire on the fourth floor and damaged a store and nearby vehicles. The ministry recorded a speed of more than 400 kilometers per hour during the attack and reported that the connection was stable. The 12 injured victims include an 11-year-old girl, and hospitals treat five wounded individuals, while two women and one man remain in serious condition and undergo surgery. The Synelnykove district faces frequent attacks and active fighting because it borders Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson oblasts, which means lethal Russian drone strikes occur on a daily basis for the local population.
Aerial warfare and infrastructure damage
Russia intensified aerial bombardments across Ukraine in October 2026 to destroy the country’s power grid as temperatures drop. Thousands of homes in Synelnykove and other parts of Dnipropetrovska lost power after Russia attacked critical energy infrastructure overnight on Oct. 21. During the recent wave of strikes, Russian forces launched 126 drones, 61 of which were jet-powered, while Ukraine’s air defense managed to suppress 101 drones, including 50 jet-powered drones, according to reports from the Air Force. On Oct. 24, monitoring channels reported that Ukraine struck several targets, including a petrochemical plant and a warehouse in Siberia, approximately 2,500 kilometers from the border.

Satellite imagery from NASA FIRMS shows that an overnight attack damaged the Taman substation in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, which supplies electricity to Crimea. While Russia launched massive drone waves, the Russian civilian aviation authority Rosaviatsiya reported restrictions on incoming and outgoing flights in Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky airports. This escalation follows the inclusion of 51 Russian citizens and 44 businesses on a sanctions list for supplying materials for long-range weapons like Iskander, Kalibr, Kh-101, and Kinzhal missiles. Local videos filmed by residents show smoke billowing over the city in the early morning. Also, reports indicate that Russian forces suffered 1,980 casualties over the past day, even as Ukraine conducted strikes against targets in Siberia.
