Civilian deaths in Komyshuvakha and Dnipro

Russian strikes across Ukraine killed 38 people and injured 167 others over the past day. In the village of Komyshuvakha in southeastern Zaporizhzhia Oblast, aerial bombs killed 31 people and left 48 missing. The first wave of bombs hit a school where humanitarian aid was regularly distributed, while nine more strikes targeted a shelter. A FAB-3000 three-ton bomb, which contains nearly one and a half metric tons of explosives, hit the underground center and collapsed the concrete structure. I find the destruction of these civilian shelters to be the most depraved aspect of this escalation. In Komyshuvakha, five people were injured, including two rescue workers and four police officers. This location is only 20 kilometers from the front line. In the city of Dnipro, a morning missile strike killed two people and injured 20 others. This strike hit a medical center and a hospital, and it destroyed a hospice that provided specialized care for the elderly. Mayor Borys Filatov said the hospice was "destroyed" and that 50 terminally ill patients, the oldest being 90, moved to another hospital. The attack also damaged 20 residential buildings. In the wider Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, four others were injured over the past day, according to Governor Oleksandr Hanzha.

Targeted infrastructure and regional casualties

Russia launched mass missile and drone attacks against energy and power generation facilities in nine regions. President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that strikes hit Odesa, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Chernivtsi, Chernihiv, and Rivne oblasts. In the northeastern city of Kharkiv, Russia launched an overnight aerial bomb attack at around 3 a.m. local time on Nov. 3, which hit the passageway between the hospital wings and damaged buildings of the medical facility. The regional prosecutor’s office said 73 people suffered from that attack, including those facing an acute stress reaction, while governor Oleh Syniehubov reported 50 other injuries in Kharkiv Oblast. Zelensky noted that ordinary people were at these sites to get help.

Missile/Drone Type Number Launched Number Downed
Ballistic Missiles 17 3
Cruise Missiles 59 49
Attack Drones 289 257

A 71-year-old woman in Zaporizhzhia was injured. Four people died and six were injured in eastern Donetsk Oblast. In northeastern Sumy Oblast, a 63-year-old man was killed and a 61-year-old woman was injured. In Kherson Oblast, seven people were injured shortly after a temporary ceasefire allowed the evacuation of hundreds of residents from occupied Oleshky. I find the scale of these strikes against critical infrastructure to be a blatant disregard for human life. The Air Force reported that Russia targeted Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Vinnytsia oblasts using Iskander-M, North Korean KN-23, and Zircon ballistic missiles.
