Kamensky Factory hit in overnight strike

Ukrainian drones and Neptune cruise missiles hit the Kamensky Factory in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, Rostov Oblast, overnight on Oct 31. The Kamensky Factory, located in the Russian city of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky some 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) east of the Ukrainian border, produces solid rocket propellant for the Uragan, Smerch, and Tornado-S multiple-launch rocket systems, as well as other missile systems and aircraft weapons. The General Staff reports that the overnight attack caused a fire at a warehouse storing finished products and damaged four production units. The Kamensky factory faces sanctions from the E.U., U.K., and U.S. because of its role in Russia’s war against Ukraine. The facility produces propellant for these specific models:

System Category Model
Multiple-launch rocket system Uragan
Multiple-launch rocket system Smerch
Multiple-launch rocket system Tornado-S

The strike on the Kamensky factory, which is one of the largest chemical plants in Russia, weakens Russian artillery capabilities.

Attacks on supply depots and energy targets

Ukrainian forces also struck four Russian military supply depots located near the Russian-occupied settlements of Khartsyzk and Dokuchaievsk in Donetsk Oblast, Novovasylivka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and Novoaidar in Luhansk Oblast. The General Staff said, "Strikes on solid rocket propellant production facilities reduce the Russian army’s ability to attack Ukrainian settlements with multiple-launch rocket systems." This strike follows an Oct 26 hit on the territory of the Energia plant, which serves as the sole Russian manufacturer of batteries for glide bomb guidance and correction modules. Since the summer, Ukraine has intensified long-range strikes against targets such as oil refineries, military-industrial plants, and airfields to degrade Russian military-industrial capacity. The Kyiv Independent cannot independently verify the reports about the Kamensky Factory or the supply depots, and Russian officials have not commented on the General Staff’s statement. This destruction of fuel production facilities remains a major problem for Russian long-range artillery.
